Common Logistics Terms¶

- ASN (Advanced Shipping Notice)
- Electronic notification sent by a supplier to notify the warehouse of an upcoming shipment.

- Barcode
- Machine-readable representation of data, used for product and location identification.

- Cycle Count
- Periodic inventory auditing procedure where a subset of inventory is counted on a rotating schedule.

- ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)
- Business process management software that manages and integrates core business processes.

- Inventory
- Stock of goods and materials held by a business.
L¶
- LPN (License Plate Number)
- Unique identifier assigned to a pallet or container of goods for tracking purposes. Also known as a "license plate" or "pallet ID".
- Location
- Physical storage position within a warehouse (e.g., aisle, bay, shelf).
O¶
- Order Fulfillment
- Complete process of receiving, processing, and delivering orders to customers.
P¶
- Picking
- Process of selecting products from warehouse locations to fulfill orders.
- PO (Purchase Order)
- Document issued by a buyer to a seller indicating products, quantities, and prices.
- Putaway
- Process of moving received inventory from receiving dock to storage locations.

- Receiving
- Process of accepting and processing incoming inventory shipments.
S¶
- SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)
- Unique identifier for each distinct product and service that can be purchased.
- Serial Number
- Unique identifier assigned to individual items for tracking (e.g., electronics, high-value items).
W¶
- Warehouse
- Facility used for storage and distribution of goods.
- WMS (Warehouse Management System)
- Software application designed to support and optimize warehouse operations.
3PL¶
- Third-Party Logistics (3PL)
- Outsourced logistics and supply chain management services.

- Global Warehouse Context
- Feature allowing users to filter all operations by a selected warehouse.
- Warehouse Switching
- Ability to seamlessly switch between different warehouse operations.
- Barcode Lookup
- Two-step barcode scanning process: scan barcode, then the system determines what it represents (product, LPN, location, etc.).
